The Nelscott Reef Tow In Classic is Oregon’s only professional surf contest. This big wave contest is held 1/2 mile offshore of Lincoln City. With a holding period of Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, organizers are waiting for a swell large enough to produce 30+ waves. Organizers have adopted a traffic light system to help keep all up to date of the contest status. Red light means there is no chance of the contest in the near future, yellow light means there is a swell forecasted that is being tracked, and green lights means the contest is a go and marks a 48 hour notice for the start.
The reef is visible from shore, but a pair of binoculars is required for viewing the action. Send email to info@actionsportsnw.com to be placed on this year’s update list.
